The launch of ChatGPT in late 2022 sparked intense competition among major tech companies to develop the most advanced Artificial Intelligence, capable of generating text, images, and videos with the highest accuracy.
Currently, Microsoft has Copilot, Google has Gemini, OpenAI has ChatGPT, and X (Twitter) has Grok, Elon Musk‘s AI. A few days ago, Musk introduced Grok 3, a version designed to set itself apart from competitors. According to the data shared during the announcement, it surpasses Gemini-2 Pro, DeepSeek-V3, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and GPT-4o in every aspect.
During a live broadcast on X, Elon Musk revealed that Grok 3 has the potential to generate simple 2D games using Python code, a feature that other AI models can also perform. However, the most surprising announcement was the creation of a video game studio that will use Grok 3 to develop titles with photorealistic graphics. Even with Grok 2, its image-generation results were comparable to Midjourney, widely considered the best AI for photorealistic images.
The use of Artificial Intelligence in video games is not new. Companies like Capcom already leverage it to optimize workflows in collaboration with Google Cloud, utilizing tools like Vertex AI for image and video generation. Other studios are experimenting with AI to enhance NPC interactions, but so far, no company has publicly declared its use of AI for full-content creation, as Elon Musk intends.
Beyond generating video games, Grok 3 will also be capable of improving graphic resolution, though it remains unclear whether this process will occur during game development or if it will serve as an alternative to NVIDIA’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR.
It remains to be seen whether Elon Musk‘s claims are visionary or overly ambitious. So far, Grok 3 has only demonstrated the ability to create 2D titles, and its capability to develop more complex games with photorealistic content is yet to be proven.
One crucial aspect that seems to have been overlooked is that a video game is not just about realistic graphics—storytelling and gameplay are just as, if not more, important than visual quality. If Grok 3 can balance these elements, its impact on the industry could be groundbreaking.
For now, no further details have been shared about the video game studio, which currently consists of nine members, including Musk. The LLM model of Grok 3 has been trained with 100,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs, thanks to Musk‘s close relationship with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, making this AI one of the most advanced on the market.
