The United States president, Joe Biden, publicly acknowledged the daughter of his son, Hunter Biden, for the first time on Friday, July 28. This marks the very first time the politician breaks the silence regarding the situation and described it as a “family matter.”
Biden told People Magazine about the relationship his son and the mother of the child currently have. He said the privacy of the daughter is the priority at the moment, and said the pair are working together to have a relationship that is good for the girl.
“Our son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, are working together to foster a relationship that is in the best interests of their daughter, preserving her privacy as much as possible going forward.”
He later clarified “This is not a political issue; it is a family matter.” With this, the Bidens have recognized the seventh grandchild in the family. The situation has become particularly sensitive, as this year Hunter Biden has received negative attention as a result of his legal issues and leaked nude photos.
The mother, Lunden Roberts, gave birth to the girl in 2019 and claimed Hunter Biden was the father. In spite of this, he denied it but when a DNA test was conducted and showed he was actually the father, he began paying the woman 20,000 dollars a month in child support starting in 2020.
Lunden Roberts has affirmed that Hunter Biden “has never seen or contacted” his 4-year-old daughter and that the Bidens, including the president and the first lady, “remain estranged” from their granddaughter.
