Weeks after its launch, it is still difficult to find a GeForce RTX 50 series graphics card in stores at a price that matches its official cost. The most accessible model, with a price close to NVIDIA’s recommended one, is the GeForce RTX 5070, while the others either come with a significant markup or are simply unavailable. In this context, it’s understandable that many users looking to purchase one of these cards feel disappointed.
Comments on our articles and discussions in hardware forums clearly reflect this frustration. Many gamers complain about the limited availability of NVIDIA’s new graphics cards, which has forced the company, led by Jensen Huang, to step forward and provide explanations to ease concerns and clarify the situation.
Jarred Walton, editor at Tom’s Hardware, sums it up well: during the first five weeks after the launch of the GeForce RTX 40 series, only the RTX 4090 was available, arriving on October 12, 2022. The RTX 4080 didn’t appear until November 16, five weeks later. It’s clear that the RTX 4090 isn’t a viable option for most gamers, neither in terms of price nor specifications.
In contrast, during the first five weeks after the launch of the GeForce RTX 50 series, four models have been released: the RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070. The first two debuted on January 30, 2025, followed by the RTX 5070 Ti on February 20, and finally, the RTX 5070 on March 5.
With this in mind, NVIDIA’s comparison doesn’t seem entirely fair, even if we consider that they have included the RTX 4080 in the GeForce RTX 40 series equation. We can only hope that availability and pricing stabilize soon for the benefit of users.
