Nintendo continues to make history with its latest console, the Nintendo Switch. The Japanese company managed to pick up after the commercial failure of the Wii U and returned to the market to claim the top sales spot. The handheld console continues to sell very well and is about to break the records other best-selling consoles have in the United States.

According to an analysis from Circana, which has been gathering gaming consoles’ data from July 2022 to July, Nintendo has had good commercial performance thanks to the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Reportedly, the Nintendo Switch continues to sell very well, earning an impressive 42 million units.

This report states that the number of Nintendo Switch console units continues to rise in different markets. In addition, this marks a possibility for the Japanese company to achieve important milestones. The first one would be beating the Xbox 360 record, which has about 43 million units sold. The second one is taking the crown from the PlayStation 2 which has sold 47 million units.

The Nintendo Switch has already surpassed the sales of the Nintendo Wii in the North American market and is now chasing the sales records of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2. With the continued rise in sales in important markets and the new important video games to be released, the company home to Pokémon, Kirby, and Mario might be able to get the top spot and leave PlayStation 2 and the Xbox 360 at the number two and number three spots, respectively.
