A video shows an elephant battling against a hungry crocodile in Africa by brutally swinging the reptile from its tail. The footage, which has already become viral across social media platforms, was taken at the Luangwa River in Western Zambia by a group of safari guides.

The clip shows how the elephant violently ran to land, but stopped and kept fighting the crocodile after seeing it would not let go from its tail. The mammal spun in circles several times and changed directions to shake off the reptile from its body.

In the end, the elephant from Africa was able to shake off the crocodile and quickly went to dry land, as the reptile remained beneath the waters. This battle for life was seen by a group of safari guides who were passing past the river. Emmanuel Sauti, one of the safari guides who filmed the animal fight stated:

“It was one of those days where we were heading back to camp from home on our off days. Just a regular drive, or so we thought. Little did we know that we were about to witness a once-in-a-lifetime event.”

Crocodiles in Africa usually hunt smaller animals, like antelope, lizards, small frogs, and fish. For this reason, picking on an elephant as a meal is probably a bad idea, considering the difference in size and strength. About this, Sauti affirmed:

“I was absolutely thrilled to witness something so rare. And boy, was it a sight to see! The elephant was putting up a good fight, and the crocodile wasn’t backing down either. I must say, that was one of the most exhilarating moments of my career as a safari guide. And the fact that it was my first time seeing an elephant fight with a crocodile just made it all the more special.”
