Social media is shocked in China, as a result of a man who raised cattle in his apartment. The man kept the animals on his balcony, on the fifth floor of the building he lives in. Videos were captured and they are moving across social media with the footage being viewed around 4 million times on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.

However, the animals were removed from the residential compound on July, 14, according to Phoenix Weekly. The neighbors were complaining about the cows’ mooing and their smell. In addition, The community’s party secretary, Zhang Dayou, stated that the calves weighed between 10 and 20kg each.

Users in Douyin gave their opinion about the surprising event regarding the finding of the cows on a balcony. “I am sure the cattle never imagined they could live in a building one day,” was one of the comments. “Poor calves, being squeezed onto such a small balcony,” another person added.

As surprising as the situation is, it is not the first time an event of this kind takes place. The reason is that residential compound houses are inhabited by nearby villagers, which explains why they would keep some of their animals, and try to carry on with their farming jobs,  in spite of living in a residential unit.

For example, a lady from northern China’s Heilongjiang Province complained about his elder neighbor having farming habits downstairs from her apartment. Unfortunately, the woman had to move out because of concerns regarding the health of her baby due to the smell of the animals.
