Genshin Impact’s voice actors have made some incredible remarks regarding the treatment they have received from the company of the open-world video game. In spite of the title’s huge financial success, the voice cast claims they have not been paid for their work. In this instance, the developing company, HoYoverse would be the main one to blame at first sight.
According to a number of actors who voiced the beloved videogame characters, HoYoverse is currently underpaying its employees and sometimes it has not even made the payments at all. Following the serious remarks, the company responded that the timely payments should come from the recording studios and not HoYoverse itself, but they had been reaching out to the studio for solving the current conflict.
About this, the English voice behind the popular non-playable character Paimon, Corina Boettger, stated the company owes them thousands of dollars. Similarly, Brandon Winckler, who voices different secondary characters, shared a similar situation. As a result, Boettger took their claims to Twitter where they revealed the bad working conditions they have had to endure and urged video games to be union.
I have been working for months that have gone unpaid. This is unacceptable AND THAT’S WHY WE NEED VIDEO GAMES TO BE UNION. ACTORS NEED TO BE PROTECTED.
Actors across the Internet have suggested that a game as big and popular as Genshin Impact should be unionized to protect workers and ensure fair treatment for the voice cast. As a response, HoYoverse released a statement where it apologized for the inconvenience and stated that it had already paid the recording studio so that the wages were sent to the voice actors. Quickly after this, Boettger affirmed the situation was getting fixed.
