BLACKPINK Jennie Kim speaks with Dua Lipa about her life on podcast

BLACKPINK Jennie Kim recently spoke with British-Albanian singer and songwriter Dua Lipa and opened up about her life and professional career on Dua Lipa’s “At Your Service” podcast. During the interview, both pop stars discuss Jennie’s struggle with finding who she truly was, her fear to express herself, and even got the chance to remember some of the “As If It’s Your Last” singer’s most important memories as a young performer.

One of the pinpoints was when the K-pop hitmaker revealed that she was given the “rapper” role as a trainee because she was able to speak English fluently. During her early days as she would practice and would tell herself that “she was a rapper”. However, with time, she grew apart from the idea and thought that the role was not for her, as she was feeling a growing interest in playing with her vocals and singing.

“The more I did singing and music, the more I came to realize that there’s a big side of me inside that I love to sing. Just play with my vocals, but I actually never really had the chance to explore that as a trainee, because I got told that I should be a rapper, You know. So there was a phase where I would hate to rap. I was like this isn’t me, this isn’t the Jennie that I envisioned in my head, I don’t think I’m a rapper. So there was definitely a burnout season.”

She later would go on to affirm that now both roles (the singer and the rapper) can co-exist and, later talked to admitted her acceptance to the fact that she enjoys rapping, especially after watching videos of herself doing so in her earlier days. “After taking some time off of work and listening to music in general, and then I actually looked back to the videos that I performed,” she said. “I see myself like enjoying rapping on stage and that’s the moment where I accepted the fact that, that is a part of me.“
