The FBI and the United States government have invited Taylor Swift fans, also known as Swifties, to speak now and report any crimes they know about. The invitation comes from. probably, the fact that Taylor Swift herself is one of the most popular artists in today’s panorama and that she is able to mobilize her huge fanbase. Given these reasons, it is very likely that the authorities resorted to the “Shake It Off” hitmaker and her lyrics to encourage people to say the truth.
On Monday, July 10, the FBI’s Washington, D.C., uploaded a message to Twitter that contained a picture inspired by Swift’s album “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).” The album had been released last week and authorities took the chance given the recent hype for Swift’s new music. In the tweet, they ask people if they have any tips about criminal activity and show 9 types of crimes including terrorism, cybercrime, counterintelligence, civil rights, public corruption, weapons of mass destruction, organized crime, violent crime, and white-collar crime.
The FBI’s album was named “Speak Now” and all the crimes in the post have the “(FBI’s Version)” phrase next to them. The nine offenses were organized from one to nine as if they were songs from an actual record. In addition, the whole post completely references the “Sparks Fly” juggernaut’s third studio album, as can be seen in the tweet which reads “Justice is better than revenge.” In the end, the post states “You may not be Superman, but you can help the #FBI protect the country. If you have information about a federal crime, speak now. Call 1-800-225-5324 or visit http://tips.fbi.gov to submit a tip.”
