A graduate student from San Diego State University in California went on a hiking trip with his classmates in Yosemite National Park, where he was swept away by the waters of the area on the weekend. The young man has been identified as Hayden Klemenok.
Reportedly, the 24-year-old squatted down close to a stream to wet his head and drink some water. Suddenly, the river quickly grabbed him and swept him away with the current. The event took place on Sunday afternoon near the Chilnualna Falls Creek.
This was Klemenok’s fourth annual trip with his friend group. According to them, they attempted to run after him while the waters carried him away but were not able to reach him. In addition, the young man’s dad, Kevin Klemenok, stated that his family is hopeful, but that they are not expecting him to be alive after several days.
Following the tragic incident, park rangers have utilized posters around Yosemite National Park to get knowledge of San Diego’s resident whereabouts. According to the authorities, the search first started as a rescue mission but changed to a recovery mission on Tuesday, July 4. Klemenok was wearing a red shirt, blue swimming trunks, white Adidas sneakers, white sunglasses, and a tan-brimmed hat.
The poster reads:
“Simply knowing where you went and when you were there may help us focus the search, whether you saw anyone or not.”
On Tuesday, friends and family of Klemenok decided to start a GoFundMe to cover the emergency expenses. They are “praying for a positive outcome,” but the search seems to point out tragic results for the Klemenok family.
