Elon Musk sets up temporary reading limits to Twitter

As of today, Saturday, July 1st, Elon Musk has announced that Twitter will have a temporary limitation on the tweets numbers users will be able to read on a daily basis. The recent measurement was taken to combat “extreme levels” of data scraping and system manipulation, according to an official statement made by the billionaire himself.

The SpaceX and Tesla executive also confirmed that these caps would affect users differently, all depending on their status on the social platform. In concordance with the details, both verified and unverified accounts are limited to reading 600 posts per day, whereas new unverified profiles will only get to see 300 hundred each day.

The CEO later expressed that these rates would be increased depending on the status of the profile the user has, although he refrained from giving the exact date for the adjustment to take place. He stated that the cap limits would go up for verified (profiles with a blue thick), unverified (profiles without a blue thick), and new unverified accounts to 8000, 800, and 400 respectively.

Following the announcement, Twitter has been getting an expected backlash due to the restrictions people now have when using the platform. As a result, new trends such as “RIP Twitter” and “#Twitterdom” have gone viral with thousands of users expressing their frustration.

It is still unclear how long the limits are supposed to last. No official announcement has been made by Musk himself or any other Twitter source. For now, it seems that the change is here to stay for a long time.
