South Korean agency, SM Entertainment, and K-pop artist Taeyeon have been having a public conflict for a couple of days now. The reasons for the dispute between the two seem to trace back to the singer’s scheduled promotions for her most recent concerts. As a result, the situation has gotten a little bit out of hand with fans of the idol protesting outside the company’s building.
Her supporters, and it looks like Taeyeon herself, have been demanding better career management, concert schedule, show venues, and, in general, an enhancement for the “Can’t Control Myself” vocalist’s treatment within the entertainment agency.
Days ago, the South Korean singer put her employer on the spot after making a post to Twitter regarding her concert in Jakarta, Indonesia. Firstly, she re-posted the concert image with a thinking emoji, and later went on to say (in Korean) “Taeyeon Concert in Jakarta’-nim doesn’t know what they’re talking about.” Allegedly, the artist and fans alike were discontent with the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) as the concert place, due to its low capacity and poor layout.
Later on, fans would go to the Police District in Seol to legalize a protest against SM Entertainment with trucks, signs, and loud noises in the company’s headquarters. One of the messages read:
“The expected audience for Taeyeon’s arena tour is baffling. Taeyeon is the only one without a tour, and you guys are cutting down the audience?… Realize the large size of her fandom and find a larger venue. Give us correct feedback on her tour schedule through promotional articles.”
Following the previous situations, the K-pop idol went one step further to express her frustration and unfollowed her professional SM Entertainment Instagram account from her personal profile on Instagram. She later used the messaging platform, Bubble, to express that “SM Entertainment’s management can be frustrating.”
