A 19-year-old passenger was arrested on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, after attempting to open the plane door during the middle of a flight to South Korea. The event took place on a Jeju Air plane that departed from Cebu, Phillippines headed for Incheon.

According to reports, the teenager had been sitting in the sixteenth row of the plane and he began to act strangely. After this, he complained of feeling pressure on his chest, so the cabin crew moved him to a front-row seat. Once he was placed there, the young man attempted to open the exit door on the plane. Fortunately, the door did not open, and the cabin crew was able to quickly control the passenger.

After the flight landed in South Korean ground, the authorities arrested the man whose identity remains disclosed. No fines or accusations were made, as he did not violate the aviation security law. Following the incident, the Incheon International Police Corps affirmed that the teenager tested positive for drugs and asked: “if all of the flight crew would have been fired if he had opened the emergency door.”

The incident did not leave any injured passengers and no damages occurred thanks to the crew’s prompt action. However, it is not the first that an incident like this takes place in the Asian country. Earlier this year, a man was able to open the door in the middle of an Asiana Airlines, before the plane landed in South Korea. In spite of no passengers being injured, a number of them were taken to the hospital due to breathing issues.
