United States, Florida – Susan Louise Lorincez, a resident of Ocala, Florida, was pressed with charges of involuntary manslaughter with a firearm. in addition to charges for culpable negligence, battery and two counts of assault. The sheriff’s office of Marion County confirmed on Wednesday, June 7 that the woman remains in custody on a 154,000-dollar bond.
The incident took place after Lorincez shot through the door at her neighbor, Ajike “AJ” Owens, a black mother of 4. According to reports, Lorincez had engaged in an argument with Owens, over the black woman’s children who were playing outside her home. The woman, pressed with homicide charges, said during her first call to a 911 dispatcher:
“I’ve got kids trespassing, leaving all their toys around. Just screaming, yelling, just being absolutely obnoxious. I went and threw the roller skate over to the other side, the kid says he’s going to beat me up for that, and he’s mouthing off to me. I feel threatened in my own home.”
As a result, the 911 told the scared woman to keep her door and windows locked, and advised her that a police officer would be sent to the area. Shortly after the first call, Owen approached Lorincez at her door and yelled at her. The woman told her to throw something at her, if she wanted to throw something. Minutes after, Lorincez told the operator that she had shot through the door, because she thought Owens would break it down.
The 58-year-old woman claims to have acted in self-defense, as she felt in danger, although authorities say this is not a justification for committing a homicide. About the event, the Floridian lady stated that “the woman was screaming and yelling at me, trying to break down my door. I didn’t know what to do. I grabbed my gun and shot at the door because I thought she was going to kill me.”
