Florida governor, Ron DeSantis, made a visit to Southern Arizona last Wednesday, June 7. This was the first time the politician made an appearance in the border between the United States and Mexico, ever since he announced his running for president last month.
This trip takes place one day after the Florida State took charge of private flights that carry migrants from Texas to California. As a result, Ron DeSantis critiqued the border policies in California, as he says they have enhanced the massive migration influx in this territory. The governor opposed to Biden’s regulations for immigrants and stated that:
Joe Biden is derelict in the performance of his duties and refuses to uphold the borders of our nation. In Florida, we’re stepping up even as the federal government falls down on the job. We enacted strong legislation to combat illegal immigration, sent law enforcement officers and equipment to the border, and have dedicated resources to divert migrants to sanctuary jurisdictions. Today we’re taking Florida’s no-nonsense approach to border enforcement nationwide.
The event was attended by a number of Floridian, Texan and Arizonian police officers. For instance, Cochise County Sheriff, Mark Dannels has shown a very critical position regarding the border situation that “President Joe Biden has allowed.”
In addition, DeSantis expressed that most people who get to the southern border do not have legitimate asylum requests and enter the country under unusual circumstances. The governor also said that the United States needs to pressure Mexico, so that the Latin American country takes charge of migrants who move through their borders from South and Central America.
