PlayStation is one of the biggest video game consoles in the world, and as such, their models are purchased every day by different people. Consequently, as soon as the warranty period of the devices expires, users can freely get rid of the packaging boxes they got their products in, and throw them away. In spite of this possibility, a number of consumers attempt to preserve their cardboard packages, whether it is for the collectible value of the console or just emotional attachment.

In this line, one of the messages shared by PlayStation UK has generated a number of discussions and replies on the Internet. The company has told users that it is okay to throw away the cardboard box from their PlayStation consoles.

In reaction, a lot of users affirmed that they would never throw any of the packages they bought away. Some fans even shared pictures of their PlayStation collection and affirmed they plan to keep the boxes of any product they purchase in coming years. One of the users expressed:

You do know the value of a console is higher with the original box (and any paper that came inside it), additionally re-using the box reduces carbon footprint.

Different messages like this have answered the company’s original tweet. After these discussions, it is clear that many fans are attached to the packages of their favorite consoles, and rather keep them for their sentimental value. Others, state that it is better to preserve them to sell them at a higher price in the future, and other users say that keeping the cardboard box is the right ecological move.
