BLACKPINK has arguably become one of the most representative groups in the K-pop genre during the past few years. In spite of having the huge back-up from their agency, YG Entertainment, the crossover to the West is always a hard step for many K-pop acts to take. However, this did not pose any problem for the South Korean-based band, as they have now broken a record, according to Touring Data.
The “Born Pink Tour,” which kicked off in October last year in Seoul, has had the young girls performing in a number of different cities across North America, Europe and Asia. However, Mexico City was the special one, as reports state that the quartet now has the best-selling show by a group in history, as they were able to gross around $10 million dollars from their two sold-out dates in the capital of the country.
Along with having the record for the best-selling show, BLACKPINK also has the highest-grossing tour by a girl band in history. The “Born Pink Tour” has sold about $78,5 million dollars in tickets with 26 shows. The K-pop quartet now has the record, which was previously held by British female girl band, The Spice Girls, who earned $78.2 million dollars with a UK tour that only had 13 dates. In third place, there is American R&B girl group, TLC.
BLACKPINK also became the first Asian act and the first all-female group to ever headline a show in the Coachella Festival earlier this year.
