A Spanish man, who weights 551 pounds, was trapped in his house had to be rescued by the emergency services in Spain, Barcelona.

The 48-year-old man contacted the emergency hotline and stated he was under a “bad health condition.” One of his legs was affected by gangrene, and he was suffering from other pains which reduced his mobility.

Firefighters attended the situation, however, they were not able to enter the door, as there was a pile of garbage behind it. Since the path was obstructed, the brigade decided to drill one of the exterior walls in order to get into the man’s place.

After being able to enter and make their way over the garbage heap, they reached the room in which the man was. The emergency team were surprised after realizing the man weighed around 551 pounds, which is 250 kg.

In order to be able to get him out of his home, a strong stretcher and the help of machines was needed. This rescue took the brigade about 4 hours. In the end, the man was rescued and later taken to the nearest hospital.

According to the neighbor’s version, the man had been living several years in his place without ever leaving it. As a result, he accumulated a large amount of garbage, which provoked rodents to start coming at his house. This ended up with his health condition being deteriorated over time.

It was stated that the man suffers from Diogenes syndrome, which entails severe self-neglect, neglect in taking care of oneself and one’s physical environment, as well as isolation.
