Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom video game sold around 250.000 copies during its second week in Japan

The best-selling video game in Japan last week was “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” which has already secured 1.3 million purchases in the Asian country. In addition to that, the Nintendo Switch console was the most purchased during these past weeks in the market.

After becoming the seventh best-selling release in Japan’s history (behind the Pokémon, Final Fantasy, Animal Crossing and Splatoon video games) Zelda keeps getting great numbers in the Japanese market, as it was able to sell another 247.689 units in the second week after its official release, according to Famitsu which is responsible for reporting physical video game and console sales in the country.

The new game in the “Legend of Zelda” saga debuted in Japan with more than 2 million copies (with physical and digital sales combined) with half of these numbers coming from physical versions. In spite of the newer release getting more traction, the previous game, “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” has also moved fans who have gotten the previous game in the series.  With a total of 7,500 purchases, “Breath of the Wild” is now rising back in popularity due to the release of its successor, “Tears of the Kingdom.”

When it comes to consoles, the Nintendo Switch family got the crown, as it was the most popular during the last week in the Japanese market. It sold 86.645 units, and its most recent OLED model was the most purchased one. The PlayStation 5 gets second place with 37.155 sales, and the PlayStation 4 rounds up the top 3 with 880 consoles sold.
