Germany requests to continue the search for Madeleine McCann at a reservoir, 50 kilometers where the toddler dissapeared

New police investigations are carried out in the South of Portugal, in an attempt to solve the mystery regarding the disappearance of British toddler Madeleine McCann, who was found missing from her room 16 years ago in the Portuguese Algarve. Upon request from the German authorities, the Portuguese police will now have to start an investigation in the Arade reservoir, around 50 kilometers from Praia da Luz, which is believed to be the place where, main suspect, Christian Brueckner, kidnapped the minor.

At the age of 3, on May 3, 2007, Madeleine was found missing from her room at a tourist resort, where she was allegedly sleeping with her younger siblings. Throughout the years, diverse clues, theories and suspects have emerged. These include speculation about Madeleine’s parents being possibly implied in the crime.

However, the case had an unexpected turn when authorities identified German suspect Christian Brueckner in 2020, who had been classified as a sexual predator with a wide criminal history. The Braunschweig prosecutor attorney is now working on a new theory. According to the German authorities, Madeleine could have been murdered by Brueckner, who had already been extradited from Portugal to Germany in 2017, due to a sexual abuse case that occurred in Greece.

The investigation revealed that Brueckner was situated near the tourist resort in which the McCann were staying the night Madeleine was kidnapped, according to the man’s cellphone history. These new searches that are being carried out in the reservoir are set to find evidence to solve the case and find answers about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
