Miranda Cosgrove, star of the series iCarly, joined other actresses who started their careers as just children like Jennette McCurdy, who recently published her memoir ‘I’m Glad My Mother Is Dead’, to talk about the pressure of being a famous child actress.
The actress, revealed that she even lived through a stage in which she was obsessed with constantly searching for mean comments made against her on the internet. During a appearance on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, Cosgrove stated that she felt “so much pressure” to work things out when she was younger.
“I had too much pressure. Even if you’re not on TV or acting or anything, just growing up, there’s a lot of pressure to try to figure out a lot of things. So I think the main thing that makes it harder to be on TV is the fact that so many people are looking at you“, she said.
“When I was younger, I’d go through and ignore all the nice comments and look for the bad ones. I’d go through them for a while and when I found them, it was the worst thing that could happen. If you look hard enough, you’re going to find something negative and you’re going to be upset for that“, she explained.
“I think that’s a hard thing for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re on a show or not, everyone gets comments on their Instagram page and it’s hard not to take some of that stuff to heart. So I’d say that’s definitely one. one of the worst sides of the net, because it’s nice to get good feedback, but then just being there for anyone to comment on is kind of an unsafe place to be“.

Reflecting now on the challenges of being a child actress, Miranda said that her whole life changed when she went to college, because she was able to have the experiences of adolescence that she had missed out on.
“My experiences were different. So I felt like I didn’t have that. And then when I went to college, I remember thinking I wanted to make an album with all these stories and things that were happening to me. Things I couldn’t have before“, she assured.
