JK Rowling opens up about her absence from the ‘Harry Potter’ reunion

JK Rowling has finally broken her silence on the Harry Potter reunion, after she took a year-long break from Twitter over the intense criticism she reportedly received following her comments about transgenderism.

The author herself responded to claims that she was not invited to participate in the films 20th anniversary special. The reunion, “Return To Hogwarts“, was released on January 1st, but the most shocking thing for some fans of the saga was the absence of the author.

Following rumors that Rowling had not been asked to participate in the reunion special, the writer spoke out after a whole year; she insisted that she simply turned down the invitation to participate in the special. Speaking to Graham Norton on “Virgin Radio“, the author put an end to her speculation.

They asked me to be in it and I decided not to. It was about the movies, not the books, for good reason. So nobody said no (to do it). They asked me to do it and I decided not to do it“.

Rowling’s revelation comes after she faced intense criticism for her controversial comments about the transgender community. The writer was accused of transphobia after taking issue with an article headline that spoke of “people who menstruate“.

In June 2020, the author explained on Twitter the reasoning for her “controversial” comments.

If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, it erases the reality lived by women globally. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex erases the ability of many of them to speak meaningfully about their lives. Telling the truth is not hateful“, she wrote.
