Elton John is delighted to have collaborated with Britney Spears on his new single ‘Hold Me Closer‘, a renewed version of his classic ‘Tiny Dancer‘, released in 1971, which is also the first unreleased song by the pop princess in more than six years.
In an interview with The Guardian, the singer-songwriter reflected on his experience with the American diva in the recording studio. In that intimate work space, the artist was fully aware that the interpreter is completely traumatized after more than 13 years subjected to an oppressive legal guardianship.
“It’s very hard when you’re young: Britney was broken inside“, revealed Elton John while comparing the singer’s darkest times with those he went through during those years in which he abused alcohol.

“It is often thought that artists have a very high self-esteem, but it is not true. That is why they need the stages and the applause. Because when they return to reality, they are back in the starting box“, he pointed out.
Elton also acknowledged that Britney had some mistrust when it came to accepting his duet proposal, an unequivocal sign that the singer had been “betrayed” so many times in the past that she still has a hard time trusting people.
“I cross my fingers and I hope that this will serve for her rehabilitation, so that she recovers her self-confidence and how good she is. We had to insist a lot for this. She had been out of music for so long… There was a lot of fear because she has I’ve been betrayed so many times. I’ve been out of the picture for too long“, he said.
