‘Top Gun: Maverick’ sets a new record by surpassing ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ at the box office

After 13 consecutive weeks at the box office, “Top Gun: Maverick” became the sixth most successful movie in ticket sales in the United States, stealing that position from “Avengers: Infinity War” which, since its premiere in 2018, generated profits of 678 million dollars; the film starring Tom Cruise exceeds 683 million dollars.

According to Variety, the record that Joseph Kosinski‘s film is achieving is unprecedented, since “Avengers: Infinity War” was predicted by “Avengers” (2012) and “Age of Ultron” (2015), so the The UCM public awaited its premiere with anticipation.

Although Top Gun has a first part, it was 36 years ago. However, since its premiere on May 27, ticket sales have shown that the public does not forget the classics of cinema, when it was released on the big screen, it grossed 356 million dollars.

In 2013, a new version of the tape directed by Tony Scott was released. Now, not even a month had to pass for the Top Gun prequel to break its latest achievement, because earlier this month, it had already stolen the position of the seventh most successful film at the box office to the classic James Cameron,”Titanic“(1997).

Critics believe that with the profits it generates, “Top Gun: Maverick” surpasses “Black Panther“, which is in fifth place of the highest grossing films. Variety is confident in this possibility, since the film will not have much competition until release of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” this November 11th this year.
