Warner Bros Discovery decided to cancel the release of ‘Batgirl’

The Batgirl movie will never see the light of day, Warner Bros. Discovery has decided not to release the film. The result is that the film directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will never be seen by anyone, even though it had completed shooting in March and even its star, Leslie Grace, was confident it would have a sequel.

The New York Post and The Wrap confirm this sudden cancellation, which means throwing away a film with a budget of between $70 million and $100 million. They claim that Batgirl is “an absolute disaster“, which means we won’t see it on HBO Max or in theaters either.

Despite having a smaller budget than other DC productions such as The Flash, Aquaman or Wonder Woman, it was going to expand the DC Extended Universe, including the return of Michael Keaton as Batman, J.K Simmons would reprise his role as Jim Gordon, and Brendan Fraser would play the villain.

Although everything is on tape, and was expected to premiere in late 2022 on the HBO Max platform, test viewings were so bad that the studio decided to cancel its release altogether so as not to damage DC’s reputation in the long run.

In the Warner Bros. merger with Discovery, the appointment of new CEO David Zaslav and resignation of Toby Emmerich, former president of Warner Bros Pictures. Zaslav wants to improve the quality of DC films and build a franchise on par with Marvel Studios. So they have preferred to cancel it altogether so that it will not be an obstacle in their restructuring of DC Films.
