Cameron Diaz has confessed that she was “used as a drug mule” in the 1990s, just weeks before her acting career took off with a starring role in the comedy film “The Mask” opposite Jim Carrey.
The actress is about to return to the big screen after an eight-year hiatus, after announcing her retirement, and now she is set to star opposite Jamie Foxx in the comedy “Back In Action“. In recounting the beginnings of her career, Diaz revealed how she ended up with a job as a “mule that carried drugs to Morocco“.
During a recent appearance on the Second Life podcast, Cameron explained that she saved enough money to move to Paris and pursue modeling, but that she had no luck finding a job in that city.

“I was there for a whole year and I didn’t work a single day. I couldn’t get a job even to save my life. Then I got one but actually I think it was a mule carrying drugs to Morocco, I swear to God“, confessed the Hollywood star.
“This was in the early 1990s. I was given a locked suitcase that had my ‘costumes’ in it. It was a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl in Morocco. She was wearing ripped jeans and platform boots, her hair down; this was really insecure. I had to tell the agents that the suitcase was not mine and that I had no idea who it was. That was the only job I got in Paris“, said the star in the interview.
The actress avoided at least a 10-year prison sentence for drug trafficking when she left the suitcase with officials when she returned to France, citing it as the first and last job she had in Paris.
After her lucky escape, the actress finally got her big break in Los Angeles, as a casting agent contacted her. Producers were looking for a lead actress to star opposite Jim Carrey in the 1994 hit The Mask.
