Tim Allen criticizes ‘Lightyear’: ‘It’s not related to Buzz’

Tim Allen, who was the original voice of Buzz Lightyear, gave his opinion on the new Disney Pixar movie, “Lightyear“, in which Chris Evans was now in charge of dubbing the iconic character. The actor shared that he believes Evans’ character “doesn’t seem to have any connection” to his version of his role.

According to Pixar, Lightyear is “the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy.” In a tweet on the movie account, he shared that Andy’s favorite toy was based on a fictional character from a sci-fi movie. The account wrote:

In 1995, Andy got a toy from his favorite movie…this is that tape“.

Allen told Extra that he had waited to comment on the film because he believes “Lightyear” “has nothing to do” with his version of his character. “This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies“, he added that he initially thought it would be a live-action story.

Tim pointed out his apparent problems with the new release. “There’s really no Toy Story Buzz without Woody“, he said, referring to the space hero’s friend, the iconic cowboy, who was played by Tom Hanks in the Toy Story movies.

I’m a plot guy and this was done in 1997, it would seem to be a great adventure story, and the way I see it, it’s not like that“.

Although the actor agreed that it is “a wonderful story“, he also commented that “it just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy“. Allen added, “It’s not related to Buzz… I wish there was a better connection“.
