Check out reviews of the Elvis biopic with Austin Butler

If you were never particularly interested in the life of Elvis, Baz Luhrmann could change your mind. Even if it’s just for you to enjoy a cinematographic show for 2 hours and 39 minutes. This Friday, June 24th, Elvis will premiere, the musical ‘biopic‘ of the King of Rock that, although there is a disparity in opinions, it seems clear that you will not get bored in your seat.

The film reviews the career of the most important musical phenomenon in the United States, Elvis Presley. The young man from Memphis’ rise to fame was unprecedented, but in his 20-plus-year career, his relationship with his agent, the mysterious Colonel Tom Parker, complicated everything.

In the plot, a boy without fear of supporting the black community at a time when they still did not have the same rights as the rest of society. In general, critics say that it is a musical ‘biopic’ that manages to stand out thanks to the energy that Baz Luhrmann’s style brings to it and the perfect choice of Austin Butler to bring Elvis to life.

As a summary, here are some of the reviews that most defend the film. The New Yorker‘s Anthony Lane cautions that it’s not a film for the musician’s biggest fans, but those who know him less “might be drawn in by the lively narrative of the story“.

Luxurious, grand, epic, elegant to the millionth degree“, Tim Stegall defines it in the Austin Chronicle.

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about Elvis, about his flaws and compromises, but it made me want to listen to him like it was the first time“, admits A.O. Scott for the New York Times.

It’s a real blast! It’s a real wonder !!!“, says Alejandro G. Calvo in his exalted review.

Don’t get the idea that this is an ordinary biopic because Elvis is a true tsunami of image and sound, faster, louder, more spectacular, more tacky, more baroque and more uncontrollable than anything he has done Luhrmann to date“, writes G. Calvo

Among its detractors, there are those who point out that it does not tell anything new, those who believe that it never ends taking flight and those who define it as a caricature.
