Jennette McCurdy announces the release of a memoir titled “I’m Glad My Mom Died” for August 9th of this year, where the former Nickelodeon star recounts the complicated relationship with her mother.
The mother of the iCarly actress led her to suffer from eating and mental disorders, so after her death in 2013 she left the performance imposed by the woman who gave her life to heal and now tells everything she has experienced trying to “capture humor in tragedy” he tells Entertainment Weekly. On the cover, McCurdy holds up a pink urn with confetti streaming out:
“Confetti spilling out of an urn felt to me like a good way of capturing the humor in the tragedy, but I knew I didn’t want to go as far as throwing the confetti or jumping in the air with a huge smile on my face or doing any other kind of body language / facial expression that could read as flippant” she says.
“Ultimately I chose a facial expression that I think reads as sincere, a little pained, and a little hopeful“, she adds.

In the book, McCurdy explains what went into her mother’s intention to make her a Nickelodeon star; her anxiety, shame, and self-loathing that manifested in eating disorders, addiction, and unhealthy relationships. Which ties together to create a heartbreaking and hilarious story from a time when Jennette talks about her childhood and adolescence as a former actress.
“It was important for me to explore the emotional and psychological abuse I endured during my time as a young performer. I feel I didn’t have the tools, language, or support necessary to speak up for myself back then, so this book is a way for me to not only honor that experience and give voice to my former self, but hopefully to encourage young people to speak up for themselves in environments where they may be conditioned to just ‘play ball’ and ‘be a good sport.’ (Sorry for the sports idioms, I’ve never played sports so I have no idea why they’re spilling out of me.)“, said her finally according to Entertainment Weekly.
