Investigation into teen’s death at ICON Park reveals possible causes

Teeneger Tyree Sampson, 14 years old, who died last Thursday night when he fell from an attraction, FreeFall at ICON Park in Florida, was already secured in the harness, confirmed a report made by the operating company.

The tower takes passengers 430 feet into the air and then descends at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour, according to Orlando’s ICON Park.

According to statements given by the 3 witnesses on behalf of the staff, the boy came off the seat when the magnets began to slow down the ride as the passengers descended.

Harness was still in a down and locked position when the ride stopped“, it was detailed in the report.

The state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services posted the Attraction’s Operations and Maintenance Manual online, which states that the maximum weight for a passenger must be 287 pounds.

Make sure to see if large users will fit in the seats. Check that they fit within the contours of the seat and that the bracket fits correctly. If this is not the case, do not let this person get on”, the manual says.

It is not confirmed if the boy entered the seat correctly. In the video shared on social networks that shows the incident, a user is seen falling about five seconds after the start of the descent. The free fall tower attraction at the famous American park remains closed and the incident remains under investigation.
