All the details of the new Korean production of Apple tv + “Pachinko”

Pachinko“, the new South Korean and Canadian series on Apple tv + with only three chapters of having been released has already attracted a large number of viewers.

This is because the series “The Squid Game“, released in September 2021, set the bar very high in terms of the productions that are created in that Asian country, and let’s not talk about the dramas, more and more have more fans.

In this sense, “Pachinko” arrives, a solid bet narratively speaking, since it is based on a novel by Min Jin-Lee, who narrates an epic-historical story about a Korean family that emigrates to Japan during the years of the Japanese occupation of Korea.

The new series, of 8 chapters, is about resilience. It begins with the military occupation of Japan in Korea and it is in this context that Sunja is born, a woman who since she was a child understands lack, inequality, adversity and, despite everything, kindness.

It is important to highlight that in its adaptation to the small screen, this series is accompanied by surprising images of landscapes, contemplative images, and fine camera movements, in addition to great performances by artists such as Jin Ha, Minha Kim, and the Oscar winner Youn Yu Jung.

Writer-director Soo Hugh hopes that at the end of the series, Pachinko’s audience pick up the phone and call their family. This series could get them really interested in her family’s legacy.

This show I did not do for the world, but for my mother. I wanted her to see herself, her mother and her ancestors on the show. She wanted to be very honest, and it’s not like she hadn’t been on previous shows, which I’m very proud of, but the difference is that it’s me on this show. It is the story of my ancestors, specifically, but it is also the story of the human diaspora. It is a story about where we have been and where we are now. Working with a material like that is something that only happens once in a lifetime”, dice la directora.
