Leonardo DiCaprio was born in Los Angeles, but his background is European.

The legendary actor is the only child of Irmelin, a German-born secretary, and George DiCaprio, an underground comic artist. His father has Italian (Naples) and German (Bavaria) ancestry, while his maternal grandparents, Wilhelm were German with a Russian background and Helene was born in Odessa, although Wikipedia claims that she was a German citizen born in Russia. The confusion went further with some statement from the actor, who has once said that he is “half Russian.” Now it seems that the thesis that his maternal grandmother was Ukrainian is prevailing, since he has decided to donate 10 million dollars (9 million euros) to this country. In any case, it is known that DiCaprio had a lot of dealings with his Ukrainian grandmother, who raised him together with his mother.

The €9 million donation to Ukraine was revealed by the Visegrad International Fund, which promotes development in Eastern Europe, according to Polish News. Some sources assure that the star did not want it to be known.
