Martin Scorsese caused great controversy in 2019 by harshly criticizing the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the superhero genre in general, creating a rift between fans and those who agreed with the legendary director of films like “Taxi Driver” and “The Irishman”. A few months ago Denis Villeneuve held the same opinion. The British actor, who recently premiered worldwide “Spider-Man: No Way Home“, a film that became the most successful of the year and throughout the pandemic. In a conversation with The Hollywood reporter Holland said:

I’ve made Marvel movies and I’ve also made movies that have been in the conversation in the world of the Oscars, and the only difference, really, is one is much more expensive than the other. But the way I break down the character, the way the director etches out the arc of the story and characters, it’s all the same, just done on a different scale. So I do think they’re real art.“, he added.
