“I don’t see them. I’ve tried, you know? But that’s not cinema. Honestly, the closest thing to them I can think of, despite how well done they are, with the actors doing their best under the circumstances, are amusement parks. That is not cinema of human beings trying to express emotional and physical experiences to another human being“, the filmmaker assure at the time.
A few months ago Denis Villeneuve held the same opinion. The British actor, who recently premiered worldwide “Spider-Man: No Way Home“, a film that became the most successful of the year and throughout the pandemic. In a conversation with The Hollywood reporter Holland said:

“Would you want to make a Marvel movie?’ but he doesn’t know what it’s like because he’s never made one“, in relation to his sayings from his past, as well as from other personalities who defenestrated superhero cinema.
“I’ve made Marvel movies and I’ve also made movies that have been in the conversation in the world of the Oscars, and the only difference, really, is one is much more expensive than the other. But the way I break down the character, the way the director etches out the arc of the story and characters, it’s all the same, just done on a different scale. So I do think they’re real art.“, he added.
